MacMedic's TechTips

In addition to InfoSource, each week MacMedics provides a tip for the Art Directors Club Metropolitan Washington newsletter. Topics range from learning secrets in Mac OS X to finding new tools inside of Photoshop. This week's tip:
Getting the most from .Mac
Many of our clients have signed up (either for personal or business use) for Apple's .Mac service, but may not be taking full advantage of all of its features. Of particular interest to designers: file sharing with iDisk, portable bookmarks, and functional (yet tasteful) photo albums. Usually people sign up for the cool youname@mac.com email address, but the iDisk is a great way to share files with clients if you don't have the technical ability (or availability) of an FTP server. Your iDisk can be mounted on your desktop, just like an external hard drive, ready for dragging and dropping - and Windows using clients can connect as well or visit a web page with links to download your files. Logging into .Mac onsite will give you access to all your bookmarks, saving you from remembering long temporary addresses. Using iPhoto and .Mac together is a very quick way to get pictures of booth layouts or mockups to your customers. If you don't have a .Mac account all these services are also offered for free from different providers, but you'll have to do some digging around and additional configuring. More info on the .Mac services is available at www.mac.com. View past tips sorted by month:
