Counterfeit AirPods are becoming increasingly common, especially around this time of year. Many of these knockoffs are sold on platforms like Facebook Marketplace, where sellers often claim they were obtained through raffles or as gifts from employers. While these stories may seem plausible, the reality is that these sellers typically source counterfeit products in bulk from overseas and resell them as genuine AirPods.
Videos on social media platforms like Instagram showcase individuals boasting about the lucrative profits they make by purchasing and reselling these fake AirPods. The counterfeits can be remarkably convincing, as they often include real AirPod serial numbers, making them appear authentic. Even trained eyes can have difficulty distinguishing the fakes from the real thing, as the packaging is often sealed and the labeling appears legitimate. However, there are a few telltale signs, such as the product information being printed on labels rather than directly on the box, and the boxes being slightly oversized.
