The true cost of buying non-Apple power adapters from Amazon:

Our new customer had to make an appointment with Apple to visit us, drive from Annapolis to Severna Park, and buy a new power 96-watt Apple power adapter and USB-C charge cable. Plus, they had to take time away from work to do this, and they had been without the use of their Mac since the night before.

Why? Because they bought a cheap, knock-off power adapter from Amazon. The money they spent $30 or so was wasted, as sellers that offer the cheap stuff from overseas sell a bunch of them for a few months and then they disappear.

  1. Loss of use of Mac for 12 hours.
  2. Not working or billing for your time for that same 12 hours.
  3. Time away from work to run to MacMedics.
  4. Gas for your car to get to MacMedics.

Two is one, and one is none! A saying borrowed from the U.S. Navy SEAL teams. Always have a backup! We highly recommend buying an extra power adapter when you buy a new Mac in case one dies (unlikely) or you lose it. Perhaps you could buy just the charge cable, which is only $19. Also, we’d like to mention that having just one backup drive or just one way to backup is no longer enough protection for your important data.
