This is what a deep hack looks like! You can hear from the audio of the hackers, they have this person under such deep control that they will not listen to the voice of reason from someone who’s trying to intervene to help them. This happened to one of our customers late last year to the tune of $17,000, and the hackers stayed on the phone (for HOURS!) while the customer went to the bank to take the cash out, and they coached them on what to say to the bank about the large cash withdrawal. After the cash was withdrawn, the hackers sent our customer to a gas station in Pasadena where they had a Bitcoin ATM machine just like this, and our customer spent over an hour feeding hundred-dollar bills into the machine. So long in fact that the gas station employees brought them a chair.

In another recent hack that I had never heard of before. On a PC, a customer who uses Fidelity somehow ended up with hackers on the PC. The hackers made the screen go dark and put up a fake message from Microsoft saying the unit was updating and it could take several hours. During that time, the bag guys had “local access” to the Fidelity account, and they sold all of their holdings to buy something else in order to pump the stock price of a shady stock in order to drive the price up. Once the price was high enough, the hackers sold their shares of the stock, making a huge profit. This is something to really think about. If you use something like 1Password that requires a fingerprint to unlock a password some one who has local acces cannot unlock your passwords, without that, the hackers can just use a saved password or use the fact that the bank “recognizes your computer” so that you don’t have to enter a password
