I’ve previously discussed this specific scam, but I’m posting again because I’ve personally encountered another business that fell victim to it. They ended up transferring $15,000 because the person who received the email mistook it for an email from the company’s owner, which was not the case. They go to great lengths to create an email chain that appears to be from the company’s owner and a consulting firm in this instance, they’re seeking just shy of $50,000. They also produce meticulously crafted fake invoices and W9 forms!
Also note how they don’t want you to use a common bill paying service nor do they want you mailing a check they only want the wire because once you wire the money, the money is gone!
