Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there! From our experience, dads often serve as the guardians of data and everything IT-related at home. As wild as it may seem, we witness firsthand the many bizarre ways people lose their data.
So, as a gentle reminder to all dads and moms, it’s essential to safeguard your family’s precious photos so that moments like today can be cherished as time passes. Your family photos are among the most valuable data you possess, so protecting them is crucial! Our recommendation is Time Machine, which is free and already integrated into all Macs. To use it, all you need is an external hard drive, which you can purchase from various places, including MacMedics. If you require assistance getting started with Time Machine, we offer this free service to the community because we truly dislike—no, we absolutely detest—seeing people lose their data.
There are also many other backup options available, such as Backblaze, which is a very Mac-friendly cloud backup service that closely resembles Time Machine in the cloud and costs only nine dollars a month for unlimited data. My affiliate code is provided below.

Remember, iCloud is not a genuine backup solution; it’s a syncing service. Think of it as Apple’s version of Dropbox. While it might save you in a pinch, it does not back up your entire computer. There is a lot of misunderstanding surrounding this because iCloud backup for iOS devices and iCloud Drive for Macs utilize the same storage space that you pay Apple for, leading many customers to confuse or merge the two services, when in fact, they are distinct from one another!
